Q&A Sunday: Feng Shui Plants for Attracting a New Job

I would like to get a feng shui plant to help me attract a job. Where can I buy one?

People often think that some plants are feng shui plants and some are not, but in fact, any plant can be a feng shui plant. You don’t even have to buy one. You can get a cutting from a plant, or you could receive a gifted plant from a friend, and it could be a feng shui plant. What makes a plant a feng shui plant is your intention. Are you putting this plant in a particular place for a specific feng shui reason? If so, then the plant can help to shift and provide more growth and healing in that situation. Not every plant in your home needs to have a feng shui purpose.

Similarly, it’s not necessarily the type of plant that is important, but rather where you put the plant. Since you are hoping to attract a job, you might find the fame area of your desk, since your desk represents your job. I would suggest putting a plant there to activate that area and invite recognition in your work. The fame area of your desk is the center back section.

Make sure you get a plant that’s well-groomed and healthy, and place it in this area with intention. The fame area, called Li in Chinese, is connected to the fire element. Because the wood element, represented by plants, feeds fire, a plant can be very supportive here. Your intention for your plant in this area can be to provide more growth and to feed the fire of your visibility so that you can attract a job.

Do you have any recommendations for which plants to put in your home for good feng shui?

I get asked a lot about which plants to bring into a space for good feng shui. There are so many options, and the best plant for you really depends on the conditions of your space, your intentions, and what you’re drawn to. Here are a few of my favorite plants to get you started:

One plant that I really love is the fiddle leaf fig. It has soft, round leaves that promote a healthy flow of qi, or life force energy, through your space. They are really beautiful plants, and can grow to be quite big!

I also love monstera, with its beautiful heart-shaped leaves. This makes it a great plant to incorporate into your space if you want to invite more love and compassion into your life. If you are looking for more love in a partnership, or if you want to focus on self-love, you can place monstera in the Kun area of the feng shui bagua, which is related to relationships, including your relationship to yourself.

The Chinese money plant, or pilea peperomioides, is also a wonderful feng shui plant. Its coin-shaped leaves can help to attract wealth and abundance. If you would like to invite more prosperity and abundance into your life, you might want to try placing a Chinese money plant in Xun position of your home or bedroom with that intention.

I hope this gives you a few ideas when choosing a feng shui plant for your home. Remember to also trust your intuition, and select a plant that you love!

Q&A Sunday: The Relationship Area of the Feng Shui Bagua

Can you tell me more about the relationship area of the bagua?

The feng shui bagua map is a tool we use in feng shui. It’s often called an energy map, because there are different energetic areas of your life that correspond to a mandala that is overlaid on your home.

One of the most popular areas of the bagua map is called Kun position, usually represented by the color pink. It’s generally referred to as the relationship area or the love corner, or sometimes marriage. Based on these names, I’m sure you can understand why so many people are curious about it!

What a lot of people don’t know is that the bagua areas, called guas, have many different nuances and layered meanings that relate back to the I Ching and the five elements. Kun position is not only your romantic relationships, but also the mother element, the feminine principle, and mother earth. It’s related to yin earth, or soft earth, like sand.

Kun is a great area to work on when it comes to love and relationships. It also has to do with having love for yourself, mothering yourself, and healing your relationship to your mother, whatever that means for you. If you’re interested in working with Kun, I would encourage you to explore that mother element or feminine principle in your life. Some ways to explore this using feng shui are to sit in this area of your home, or bring some attention to it. Know that doing this is working in subtle ways to heal your love for yourself, your feminine side, your relationship with your mother, and your relationship with mother earth. This concept trickles down in so many ways, and it’s quite a deep teaching.
