Q&A Sunday: Artwork in Pairs

I have purchased the Venus mandala, and I want to hang it my bedroom, but just ran across a post on decorating a couple’s room, and it says to hang artwork in pairs. Do I need to get another mandala, or is this ok, since it symbolizes relationships?

Shayna G., New York, NY

Hi Shayna,

Thanks for your question! I’m so glad you got the Venus mandala. I really love that one. The Venus yantra was the first yantra I ever created; it’s so delicate and pretty. And yes, the Venus mandala relates to romance and emotions, which would be a wonderful addition to your bedroom.

Now onto your question! It is ideal to have things in pairs in the bedroom, such as pairs of pillows, or two nightstands, but it’s not a strict rule. For instance, it makes a lot of sense to have a pair of pillows and two nightstands because there’s something for you and something for your partner. But for instance, artwork of a single woman may not be the best thing for a woman who’s lonely and looking for a partner. In one case, I visited the home of a woman with several images of singular things. It was very obvious. But it’s perfectly okay to have things not in pairs, such as your Venus mandala, especially because the purpose of that mandala is to support your relationship. In fact, I have that first yantra I ever painted hanging in my bedroom, and it’s not in a pair.

Most principles in feng shui are highly personal, and this one is no different. If there is a beautiful piece of art that you want for your bedroom and really love it, it's most likely acceptable. In this case especially, as the art represents relationships. If you find that the artwork in your room is singular and much of it has to do with being alone or isolated, then you may want to take a look at what that reflects for your life.

Q&A Sunday: Daybeds and Feng Shui

I was listening to your Episode #12 and was wondering what your feeling is on daybeds; I live in a studio and have a daybed that acts as a couch and my twin size bed. The space simply cannot accommodate a larger bed. Do you have any recommendations as it relates to modifying the space to make it more auspicious for attracting a partner?

Rita P., Queens, NY

Hi Rita!

Thank you so much for listening my podcast (including Episode #12: Making Space for Love) … and also thank you so much for writing in!

Yes, daybeds. I remember they were so popular when I was a teenager. My sister begged my mom for a daybed so her friends could come over and sleep on the bed that you could pull out below.

In this case, you only have the twin bed and nothing below. I very much understand that in studio apartments you only have so much room, and if a twin bed or a daybed that acts as a sofa is all that you can manage, then it is what it is.

As I discussed in the podcast, a twin bed, with the long end against a wall, is not the most ideal for attracting a partnership, because it’s not exactly open on both sides.

In addition, the twin size only accommodates one person comfortably, and with the long side against the wall, if you could somehow both squeeze in, one partner may feel trapped! We definitely don’t want that, do we? 😃

Some possible solutions may be:

- Upgrade to a pull out sofa or futon that becomes a larger bed (I understand that you may not have room for that either).

- Get an additional twin bed that pulls out from under the daybed to make it a larger bed. When using this bed with the split, be sure to use a red sheet under any other sheets to mend the split.

If none of this is possible, listen to the podcast again. Look at some of the other love-related blog posts, and use the other tools to attract love, such as activating the opposite gua, self-knowledge, and keeping the bed clean underneath. I would also suggest the most basic feng shui cures, like making sure the bed is in commanding position

A bed that can comfortably accommodate two is, of course, the best option for welcoming love, but if your space doesn't permit that, there are plenty of ways to show the universe you're looking for a partner! If your daybed isn't going anywhere anytime soon, aim for these other feng shui adjustments and remember that intention is one of the most important aspects!

Q&A Sunday: Rose Quartz

Hi Anjie, recently I purchased two rose quartz stones as I want to work on meeting a nice man, but also to meet new friends! I put the stones just outside the left corner of my bed. Is this a good location to put the stones since I do not have a "bedroom"? I live in a studio. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Jennifer, Chicago, IL

Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for your question! I hope you like the rose quartz pairs that you purchased from the website. They will be helpful in attracting a new partner. Since you live in a studio, it seems like a good idea to locate them  by laying the bagua on your bed. You place the grid so that the relationship area is on upper right corner near the head of the bed. In other words, if you’re laying in bed on your back, the relationship area is the corner of the bed near your left shoulder, so the night stand on the right side of your bed would be the perfect place to activate relationships.

As far as meeting new friends, rose quartz might not be the best thing for that. You can activate the water element in your home to create new connections with friends. You can wear more black, add wavy patterns or shapes, or add a fountain. Also, for your qi - say yes and make more connections with people!

I hope that helps! Send along a photo of your rose quartz, we’d love to share it!
