Feng Shui Tips for Travel

Clear the space.

Whether it's a hotel room, a sofa, or your childhood bedroom, there can be residual energies from the people that have stayed there before, or just from the people you're staying with. When you're traveling, you can easily feel sensitive to space as well as foreign energy. By clearing the space, you're just giving the place a little perk to provide a restful and spacious sleeping situation while traveling.

I suggest carrying some space clearing tools with you whenever you travel, such as palo santo or orange essential oil spray. I prefer room sprays when traveling because you're not burning anything. The Holistic Spaces Store sells palo santo sticks, and orange and white sage room mists.

Mind your electronic devices.

It's best to keep electronic devices at least 5 feet away from you while sleeping if possible. It's often challenging to sleep well in a new place, especially while traveling, and EMFs can also affect your ability to receive restful sleep. Paying attention to our devices can also be a big distraction to falling asleep.

Unpack and make yourself at home.

The first thing I do when I arrive at my sleeping destination is unpack! Putting your belongings away in a drawer creates a feeling of ownership and relaxation, rather than the chaos of literally living out of a suitcase. Then I tuck the suitcase away, which makes me feel at home and spacious. Just like you, your belongings deserve to stretch out a bit after a long day of traveling :)

Love Note from Anjie: Giving and Receiving

giving and receiving

After a few gray rainy days, the sun is back today in NYC. It's chilly, so I'm enjoying the new cashmere scarf-hat-gloves set that I gifted myself. I'm a big fan of treating myself as often as possible. I also love gift-giving. If I find something special, I purchase a few extra so I can give them to friends. I love giving little gifts, just because!

This year I gifted chocolates, many Lunar New Year charms, some of my ceramics, and artwork from two of my gifted Mindful Design graduates. When I make purchases, I not only try to offer gifts that I love myself, but think about who I'm supporting. In addition, this year I did something new - I re-gifted books to my nieces and nephew. I wanted to model for them that gifts don't need to be “new”.

How do you practice giving & receiving?

Love Note from Anjie: Your Story

your story

A bright cool Los Angeles morning. Although I'm a true New Yorker now, I will always have a special place for my home state of California. It's always a treat to visit here.

When I think of my childhood home, as well as my home in NYC, I feel safe, happy, and protected. They are spaces in which I feel love and nourishment. I'm fortunate because I know this is not always the case, and there are many spaces in which I do not feel this way.

what are the stories you tell yourself about your home?

do they free you? do they limit you?

are they helpful or hurtful?

what is your story?
